A lot of adult Americans suffer from one of more forms of anxiety disorders every year. And thanks to modern science, the mental health community has found a lot of different ways to treat anxiety. Listed in this article are some of the most commonly used anxiety treatment. Treating anxiety disorders is no long impossible, and sufferers should not be afraid to come forth to have it treated.

Anxiety disorders are more common than one would actually think. A recent study showed that approximately 19.1 million American adults aged 18 to 54 suffer from anxiety disorders of different forms. Women appear to be twice as likely to develop generalized anxiety disorder, post-traumatic stress disorder, and panic disorder than men.

Living with an anxiety disorder can be very difficult. Psychological conditions of this kind are known to be debilitating in a way that it prevents sufferer from doing their daily routine out of fear and worrying. But thanks to modern science, there are now a lot of different ways to treat and manage anxiety disorders. Here are some of the more commonly used anxiety treatments by mental health professionals:

1.Medications. There are a lot of different anxiety medications that psychologist prescribe to sufferers whose anxiety disorders become too overwhelming that it already starts to interfere with their daily lives. Varieties of anti-anxiety drugs, anti-depressants, and beta-blockers are used short-term as it can be habit-forming after long term usage.

2.Cognitive-behavioral therapy (CBT). This treatment plan aims to change the negative thinking pattern of the afflicted so that he can return to normal society. During CBT sessions, sufferers are able to identify their irrational beliefs that's stopping them from fighting and facing their fears. After all issues are addressed, new thinking patterns are established so that sufferers can now take charge of their life and face their deepest fears.

3.Relaxation technique. This therapy involves practicing muscle relaxation exercises, breathing exercises, and uses guided imagery to reduce anxiety.

4.Biofeedback. Biofeedback uses sensors that monitor your vital signs and signals you once it detects any changes related to the symptoms of having an anxiety attack. Biofeedback teaches sufferers to be more mindful of their body so that they can recognize and control their anxiety attack as it happen.

5.Hypnotherapy. This treatment requires the aid of a licensed hypnotherapist. The hypnotherapist then introduces different therapeutic techniques to a sufferers mind while he is in a state of deep sleep. Hypnosis professionals can also make encouraging suggestions to a person's mind to further strengthen the resolve to treat anxiety.

6.Acupuncture. Using a special set of needles, trained and licensed acupuncturists administer treatment by pinning the needles to certain pressure points of the body. The pressure points would help the afflicted to soon recover from their fears.

7.Natural and herbal remedies. Some herbs and roots like the valerian root and the kava kava were said to have been used in treating anxiety issues for a lot of years. Since the effectiveness of these herbal remedies have not yet been adequately studied or proven, people should be cautious before choosing to use it. It may cause the undesirable drug interactions or trigger allergic reactions.

Treating anxiety disorders may be difficult, but it is not impossible. Science has offered you many different alternatives to choose from, it is up to you to want to take a step forward to seek help.
